The brief
Mobile money is how millions of people in Rwanda pay every day, but splitting bills, dialling USSD codes and finding receipts in SMS threads is still fiddly. Pebla's redesign had to unify pay, split, history, utilities, referrals and loyalty in one app, without breaking a production backend already serving live users.
See it in action

Needs we met
What each group needed for the project to count as a success.
Business
Sit on top of MTN MoMo and Airtel Money instead of replacing them, and give people a reason to pay through Pebla every day.
Stakeholders
The redesign had to keep every production feature working, from eKash and SIM selection to scan-to-pay, and match the real backend contract.
Customers
People wanted to pay, split and top up in a few taps, and to see an accurate history without digging through SMS.
How we delivered
Before merging, every production branch was audited against the redesign with a feature checklist, so nothing live regressed. Where the backend differed from its docs, the app was aligned to the real endpoints and the remaining gaps were written up as an API requirements spec for the backend team.
- Step 01
- Rebuilt the consumer app on Clean Architecture: domain, data and presentation layers with GetX, GetIt and go_router
- Step 02
- Built pay, split, utilities, eKash, referrals and the loyalty wallet into one redesigned shell
- Step 03
- Added SMS enrichment that matches MoMo confirmations to payments, plus dual-SIM handling that survives SIM swaps
- Step 04
- Ported production features such as scan-to-pay OCR and payment location, then verified with the full test suite
